“Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him" (Mk 16:6).

Holy Week Update

The Chrism Mass: The Chrism Mass for the Diocese of Rockford will be celebrated as originally scheduled on Holy Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from St. Peter Cathedral Parish. Bishop Malloy will live-stream the Mass without the presence of other faithful or priests except for the Cathedral Rector and Masters of Ceremonies.

Holy Thursday: Bishop Malloy will live-stream the Mass of the Lord's Supper from the Cathedral at 7:00 p.m. Priests are given the faculty to celebrate this Mass in the parish church without the presence of the faithful. That condition is to be observed. The bishop urges the faithful to follow the liturgy by some element of live-streaming.

Good Friday: Bishop Malloy will live-stream and celebrate the Good Friday liturgy at St. Peter Cathedral at 2:00 p.m. without the faithful being present. Priests are instructed to do the same at the time chosen for their parishes, again with no faithful present.  In addition, no other gatherings of any sort are to be celebrated, including Stations of the Cross or distribution of communion (except in danger of death).

The Easter Vigil: The Bishop will live-stream and celebrate the Vigil Mass at St. Peter Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. Priests are given the exceptional faculty to celebrate this Mass in their own parishes, again without the people.

Bishop Malloy has not yet spoken about the celebration of Easter Sunday.  When news comes, it will be added here.

All live-streams of the bishop's liturgies can be found at the diocesan website, www.rockforddiocese.org.
